UPSC vs TSPSC - 2023
A saying in Telugu goes in this way, “అయితే అతి వృష్టిలేదా అనావృష్టి” that translates to either there would be aflooding or a drought. Such is the case for the government exam aspirants. While they prepare to become the coveted IAS, they often venture into other exams like State PSC Group-I or SSC CGL just to become financially empowered & extend their time limit to prepare for UPSCexamination. Either they would be free for complete year concentrating on UPSC alone or confused as UPSC and some other exam like State PSC Group-I will happen more or less at the same time. That is exactly the case with the aspirants of UPSC preparing for the much-anticipated Telangana Group-I with 500 + posts.
The Crucial Questions that ponder around for UPSC aspirants who are also concentrating on TSPSC Group-I Mains are:
  • Is it good to deviate from the preparation cycle of UPSC at all?
  • What should I concentrate: TSPSC Group-I Mains 2023or UPSC CSE Prelims 2024?
  • Am I missing the lifetime Opportunity by notconcentrating on TSPSC Group-I Mains that is easier compared to UPSC CSE Mains 2023 for which I am not confident regarding the Optional Subject?
  • How should I balance the twin boats of UPSC CSE & TSPSC Group-I at a time?
First let us see the bigger picture, UPSC or TSPSC Group-I:
  • Both of them are about serving the society as an administrator with comparable commandingpower in a district
  • UPSC is having higher reputation but lesseropportunities compared to TSPSC Group-I that have comparable reputation with more opportunities
To answer the questions above, let us consider the scenarios given below and see the better possibilities with substantiation
  • If you are a fresher to UPSC preparation and did not complete the UPSC CSE syllabus even once, TSPSC Group-I Mains examination is the better option of the two as the notification is a lifetime opportunity of 500+ Posts in one’s own state.
  • If you have attempted UPSC CSE exam once and is confident about your preparation for the entire process, Do not deviate from it
  • If you have attempted UPSC CSE exam at least once and is under confident about your preparation for the entire process, TSPSC Group-I Mains can be your go to option
  • If you have attempted UPSC CSE exam at least once and are failing in prelims or mains continuously for more than two times TSPSC Group-I Mains can be your go to option to have a break and to reflect on your process during this time
  • If you have attempted UPSC CSE 2023 prelims andcracked it, but is not sure about your optional subject preparation or did not start your optional subject preparation, TSPSC Group-I Mains is a better option to not get carried away by the success in the prelims and miss the once in a life time opportunity
  • If you have attempted UPSC CSE 2023 prelims and cracked it, completed at least your mains portion before, revise the subjects, write mock tests and do not deviate at all as you have crossed the tougher stage and prepared your ground for the forthcoming battle
  • If you are confident of preparing for TSPSC Group- I Mains 2023 and UPSC CSE Prelims 2024, prepare short term, medium term & long-term plans giving more weight to the respective exam at such point of time but without neglecting the process for the other examination. Planning plays a key role & if you achieve 75% implementation of your plan in one month, go for it or make a choice.
Opportunity is just like our life. Choice, Priority & Planning plays a key role in achieving success. Whatever you choose, you must own the consequences and never worry about the path that you had left for the other. Do not waste too much time in thinking about the choice. Make a decision that can be substantiated practically and move on to the process.
Whatever may be the choice, if you make sure the process is beautiful, success obviously follows
